Is there a good red hair dye that is pretty, not shocking and will leave your hair soft?

I recommend the color experts two-step product (the one in the big red box that comes w/ highlights)--it's called cherry cordial. I've been using this for more than a year, and get a lot of compliments on it, including from salon professionals. Costs approximately $20, much more affordable than professional coloring, and I'm pleased with the results. It does leave my hair soft, and comes with extra conditioner. I've had my hair profesionally done before (including once when I messed the color up myself), but for my lifestyle, home coloring works just as well (that is, I'm not super obsessive about appearance). All hair dyes fade with time, and red is the worst--but it's still affordable to keep this one up, as opposed to $100 a month for a salon job.

you really need to go to a professional... especially if this is not the first time you have dyed your hair..unless your undyed hair has grown all out, then the color with stick differently to the already dyed color and you will have a mix of colors in your hair... not to drastic, but, noticable. No, all store bought dye is meant to change the color of your hair well if its within a few shades... NEVER use like a black dye if you have blonde hair thats over the counter.. the chemicals are not the same and you will ruin your hair and it will look nasty... TRUST ME... But if yourhair is like say brown and your wanting to do this.. i would definatly use garnier fructis hair dyes....more natural and softer look of a color..

Redken makes a great line of red haircolors. You would have to go to a salon to get it but it is so worth it. They have a variety of reds to choose from and you will definetly find one that will suit your skintone. They are long lasting too so you will not have to worry about fading. Remember that when going with a red haircolor: never wash your hair with hot water, use the coolest you can stand because hot water will open the cuticle and let the color bleed out while cool water closes the cuticle and enhances shine too. Also use a shampoo that is specifically made for colored hair. Or even better for red hair. Suave makes a great line of products that you can buy at regular stores that help maintain and enhance red hair. It works just as well as the products you get at a salon. If you lived in Ohio I would do it for you, I love haircolor.

hey,am not an expert in this but i will tell you what i know.well,the effect of dyes is almost the same with relaxers!!!they can either make or mar your hair!!!i have really thick hair and i have always longed for sleek and soft hair!not forgetting a suave colour.introducing hair dye!!guess what i went for??RED.needless to say,i went on a shocking,thinnning hair experience that i wont forget in a hurry.

red as a colour is shocking and you cant take that away from it!however,you can go for red colour 33,that will look like marcia cross"s lovely red hue.(if you are lucky that is)however,if you are of african descent like me,please sister,relax your hair before applying dye!!but if you have naturally soft hair,the dye will further thin your hair and automatically make it softer.so,there goes.

i think you should choose the color of your dress based on your skin tone rather than your hair color.

I think that out of those colors purple would look the best on you. It would accent your hair, and if you wore scarlet there is a very good chance that it would clash.

Even though this is your dream dress i recommend trying to find one in emerald green or black, as they would probably be more slimming and would better accent your hair.

We each carry genes from both of our birth parents and when we're born we have different features from both meaing in those features, that gene overtook the others (example: blond mom + red haired dad = you being blond).

Though you were born with blond hair, you still have the recessive gene from your dad's red hair gene. Meaning that although you didn't come out red-headed there's still a chance that your child might be red haired. This will only occur if you were to have a child with someone who has or is in the same situation as you.

Now, you mentioned you see yourself having a child with a non-white person. Well, your chances are low, probably 20% or less because since you have the gene of the red-hairedness of your dad, it's not as dominant as the blond gene and certainly wouldn't be dominant when mixed with your partner's gene.

Simple as this. If you have the red-hair gene, yet you are blond, the blond gene dominated the red-hair one. It will continue to dominate unless you were to be with a red head. If you're gonna have a child with a non-red head, then your child has a high chance of being anything other than red-haired.

Remember this though, just because you're blond and your partner wouldn't be red-haired doesn't mean your child wont be. You still carry that gene. It's just that it's probably a 20% or less chance of that happening.

I hope you like red heads, because there is an excellent chance your child will have red hair. Red hair is very dominant if there is any at all in your immediate family. In my case, neither of my parents have red hair, my greatgrandmother had red hair, one of my brothers has red hair and my daughter has red hair, my sister's daughter has red hair and my brother's daughter has red hair. So weird how it happened that way. None of us expected it except for my brother who himself has the red hair.

I guess if the father of the child is non-white then darker hair may be more dominant on his side, so due to that it may lessen your chances for a red-head.

Either way, it's so much fun to imagine what your child will look like and part of the whole miracle is that you can never really know.

welll wat i do wen my hair gets frizzy is use herbal essence moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and then u can try straightening it with a straightening iron. i also use garnier fructis products like smoothing milk. also if u gel your curls theyll really stand out but there wont be any frizz. then u could where a head band in front on the gelled curls. that always looks really good

totaly red. I have the same discription as you do. i did the blond thing once and the red thing. The red i liked but i shaved my head at a benifit and never put it back...i regret it. i can't afford it right now. Or you know you could always try both. do blond first and if you don't like it do red. by coloring over the blond you'd get highlights in the red. but i don't recomend doing both within 24 hours. you could fry your hair.

All hair is red pigment, however, blonds have the least red pigments and raven the most.

Person with hair of blonds or brunettes, and slightly to heavily ruddy complexion have red dominant in the natural hair color range.

Now, a mild chemistry lesson.

Permanent hair colors, levels 2,3,4 utilize hydrogen peroxide to activate the color, regardless of lightening or darkening end result, known a single process hair color procedure, commonly produce "brassiness".

Hydrogen peroxide permanently "opens" the hair follicle outer cuticle, allowing the color molecules to be deposited inside the hair.

Simultaneously, the peroxide is "oxidizing" or bleaching (lightening) the follicle, in a single process while placing manufactured color molecules into the follicle.

The follicle can never be closed, only a bit, by rinsing in cold water. It can be "sealed" with product, however, this is not a good use of time and finances.

After you color you hair with a semi-permanent or permanent retail sourced product, and see red, the natural color pigment is partially oxidized out, and the bleached brassy follicle is now you base.

Your have created a base color that is brassy or red.

The eye, under different lighting, sees the hair color, registering the "lightened" base (brassy) hair color of the follicle; the manufactured color molecule failed to be deposited into the follicle!

Unfortunately, as you and I have experienced, the retail sourced color products molecule have or will "slip" out of the follicle from a retail sourced product, and will continue to do so.

Peroxide will lighten dark hair through dark red, red, light red, orange, blond orange, titian gold, gold, lemon, light lemon until the original, natural color molecule is oxidized out of the follicle, progressing towards platinum.

Now, do you understand that you have experienced "color slippage"?

Newly colored hair must be rinsed in cold water, for ten minutes, the water best being "soft" or free of minerals and lime.

If your region has "hard" (heavy minerals) you will constantly battle the common problem "Color Slippage".

Retail sourced color is mixed in vats; the "heaviest" mix at the bottom of the vat (high quality) reserved for top branded product for high end salons, the middle as product for mid ranged salons, and the top for the low end of the market, $6.00- $15.00 commercial/retail sales; although this is the most profitable as the market is mass sales.

A great deal of your mystery is water type, natural color pigment, complexion, hair condition and an inappropriate product for your hair.

Another option is to select a darker color, level 3 o 4 permanent, in ASH tones. Ash tones (green) will counteract the red tendency that maybe natural in your hair, and the definite red tones that have resulted from the hydrogen peroxide oxidizing of the now brassy follicle. Green plus red = brown.

Some persons have experienced 100% desired success, as I have with a Japanese product that is sold under the name "Bigen". Bigen only features chestnut to black, the color never slips out, the color shines, the product is easy to use, and it only grows out, it never slips out.

For lightening, I would go to a professional colorist.

If you enjoy coloring your hair yourself, select products that deposit color with little peroxide if you stay in the brown range, again, tow the line with the ash shades only if you dislike red or brassy tones.

Cold water rinse only!

Ash shades are indicated as A, red as R, Gold as G and neutral as N. Some manufacturers use different designations, but you have the intelligence to research and select your own color.

So many persons resolve to use the best products ony sold in beauty supply stores where there are trained cosmetologist who will be more than glad to help you.

I'm assuming you're dying out of a box...

if so then it's because box hair dyes tend to reach in and grab your hair's natural highlight colors. Yours, being red. I dyed my hair a golden brown and it turned out with alot more red in it even though the box clearly had no red in it. My natural highlights/undertone is red...so it brought that out.

I don't know what other tips to give you about avoiding red because I don't know what color you're trying to dye it!

Whatever you do, just always go for the golden tones and hope for the best!

i had this problem but my hair kept turning orange. i just had to stop dyeing it because eventually it started falling out. it took about a year and a half. if you get bored w/ your hair try colored extentions. human hair always look best and you should never use glue it does more damage. go to a professional

If you have any question at all, go with what you have. Redheads naturally have redhead skin and brunettes usually don't have enough pale yellow in their skin to hold up to red. My biggest dye mistake ever was something called Redwood- sort of a mahogany that took seemingly forever to grow out. However, my sister, who had a lot of natural red in her brown hair, was happy as a redhead for a little while. She's back to brown- a reddish brown- now.

Watercolors by Tressa is the brand I recommend. It comes in several shades of red and is gentle enough for daily use even on chemically treated hair. Artec by Lorial is also good. Matrix also offers a decent color depositing shampoo. These all work as a subtle tonal glaze that will be intensified by the frequency of use. Shampoo with it everyday until you get the desired tone, then just use it occasionally as needed for upkeep. Don't use a henna it's not as predictable and usually fades to an unattractive tone. You could also ask your stylist to do a color glaze. This is a semi or demi permanent color that's mostly clear with just a bit of color mixed in for a subtle tone change and high shine.

try the john ferria color glaze.. make sure its the GLAZE its a type of color rinse.. and it should add tones of red. One con of it is, you do have to use it a LOT and if you use to much it makes your hair gooey. So use it wisely. Hopefully this helps!

Yes, red hair dye does fade rather quickly. Try to not wash your hair too often - maybe 2 or 3 times a week and don't use conditioner. To stop it from fading too fast, try John Frieda's Luminous Color Glaze for red hair. It worked really well for me and it's available at Wal-Mart, plus it's not too expensive. Also, get some shampoo that helps preserve hair dye.

Red color molecules are larger than any others, and they slip out of the hair fastest. Personally, I use Wella Magma intensive red color for my red panels, but you can only get it with a cosmetology license (it's some hardcore color...not for use by someone not skilled). Belk salons use it...otherwise, all you can do is this...if you have dark hair, bleach it to red, no lighter than orange - NEVER to blonde. The already red base will make it last longer. You can try a pigmented shampoo..like Paul Mitchell colors shampoos. All salon quality shampoos are color safe. Redken Color Extend is my favorite though.

You are who you are, Red is a lovely colour if you look after it well, and redheads have pale skin and freckles and burn in the sun easy. That doesn't make you any different to anybody else. Keep it clean, and in good condition and you will have locks to be proud of......

Buy Aveda Shampoo and conditioner for redheads, expensive but worth it. Try straightener's make the girls envy you ..... Reds are also known to have very thick hair, and its only kids being kids..... just be you sweetheart. I'm sure your wonderful in looks as well as a person. I have a friend who has Gorgeous dark auburny red hair and freckles and she used to be really self conscious, asking all the time whether she should dye her hair and complaining about her freckles.

And then a few months ago, i dont know exactly what happened but she suddenly sort of accepted herself, got so much more confident and started to enjoy being a bit different. I have experience with this.

All hair is red pigment, however, blonds have the least red pigments and raven the most.

Person with hair of blonds or brunettes, and slightly to heavily ruddy complexion have red dominant in the natural hair color range.

Now, a mild chemistry lesson.

Hydrogen peroxide permanently "opens" the hair follicle outer cuticle, allowing the color molecules to be deposited inside the hair.

Simultaneously, the peroxide is "oxidizing" or bleaching (lightening) the follicle, in a single process while placing manufactured color molecules into the follicle.

The follicle can never be closed, only a bit, by rinsing in cold water. It can be "sealed" with product, however, this is not a good use of time and finances.

After you color you hair with a semi-permanent or permanent retail sourced product, and see red, the natural color pigment is partially oxidized out, and the bleached brassy follicle is now you base.

Your have created a base color that is brassy or red.

The eye, under different lighting, sees the hair color, registering the "lightened" base (brassy) hair color of the follicle; the manufactured color molecule failed to be deposited into the follicle!

Unfortunately, as you and I have experienced, the retail sourced color products molecule have or will "slip" out of the follicle from a retail sourced product, and will continue to do so.

Now, do you understand that you have experienced "color slippage"?

Newly colored hair must be rinsed in cold water, for ten minutes, the water best being "soft" or free of minerals and lime.

If your region has "hard" (heavy minerals) you will constantly battle the common problem "Color Slippage".

A great deal of your mystery is water type, natural color pigment, complexion, hair condition and an inappropriate product for your hair.
