Need advice on dying my light red hair black.?

I have naturally light red hair (and non existentt color on my brows) I want to go black. I am thinking about a temporary hair color thta washes out in a few washes just to see how it looks but I have heard that it won't be as true black as a semi permanent. I want to do this at home, Any advice, brand selcetion etc....would be appreciated.

BTW my hair is undamaged by bleaches or perms...and is in great shape.

You probably have a really light skin tone. Are you sure that you want to do black? It would be such a dramatic change. Why not dye it blonde and get light brown highlights. That would probably look good! You can also get them to dye your eyebrows a little darker or you can pencil them in yourself! Hope this helps!

well you can actually buy Garniess Nutriss dye (I use that one) and just whatever one that is black and you wont mess it up becasue its black...My friend dyed my hair black and she didnt use prepared dye..she prepared it herself..

if you want to find out how you look with black hair, try the spray on halloween stuff first, the kind that washes out right away. it will make your hair feel kinda nasty and not look great, but at least you can see if the color works with your skin.

for a true black, you have to go with semi permanent. you can only find a real black (most are just very dark brown) at a beauty supply store like sally's. i would also go for a blue/black color. it will look black, but be shinier with just the barest hint of a highlight (you've seen people and cartoons with this look, i'm sure)

also, any dye will come out brighter and much better if you bleach your hair first, but if your hair is light, you can try it without bleach. do a test strip on a piece of hair that wont show much to see how well the dye will hold.

also, DON'T use the hair dye on your eyebrows. if you want darker brows, get special brow dye or use a brow pencil.
