I used about 4 packets to get the color I wanted, mixing it with conditioner and a little water. It is in my hair now and my scalp is burning and itching. The instructions I read said to leave it in for 6+ hours, but it burns too much.

What should I do?

but i have never heard of leaving it in for 6+ hours. i dont know about that. research all the kool aid dying articles online you can and find a better time to take it out

You must've used unsweetened and you have a sour head. Be careful or you'll be Kool-Aid man bald with a tinted head.

wash it out, I cannot understand why it would burn, but if it is, wash it out. Because it can burn the scalp and leave blisters and scabs.

Rinse your hair out immediately with cool water. Put pure aloe on your scalp. And next time, apply a little oil on your scalp before ANY dye application whatsoever for protection. Use crushed, dried roses or a rinse out to dye your hair from now on. It's much safer. Never put kool aid in your hair for more than 30 minutes and keep it away from the scalp if you ever dare to apply it again. Next time, use cranberry juice as a hair color rinse.
